Black friday, stress and how to conquer it

The very mention of black friday makes some people shudder. There is good reason. People get trampled, pushed down, punched, wait in lines in hours in the cold, all so they can get the best stuff for the lowest prices. I once had a much older woman than me hit me with a shopping art over a heavy winter jacket. It gets crazy out there. So how can we conquer the stress and still save? Good question!


  
My first piece of advice to conquer the madness is to shop the pre-sales. Beginning around the first of November stores start having great sales. Amazon has their lightening deals of the day, Walmart has their early bird online specials, Target's cartwheel app has 50% toys every day from 11/1-12/24, which you can read more about in my previous post. Last year walmart also did a pre black friday price match the 3 day before black friday. Those 3 days the price matched the black friday ads for Target and best buy. You didn't even need the ad, the price match items were tagged in store. I was able to get Skylanders Swap Force for my son for $37.50 and didn't have to go to Target thanksgiving night to get it! No word yet if they will do it this year, but fingers crossed. Shopping these pre-sales can help save money, and they keep you from having to brave the crowds, and from losing sleep, to get the good deals.


Another nice alternative to black friday is cyber monday. Cyber is the black friday of online shopping. For me, it's even better because it can be done in my pj's, with my cup of coffee in my hand. No lines, no crowds, no old ladies with shopping carts. The items I want are still on sale, and the come right to my door. Sometimes I can even save shipping costs and have them shipped to my local store.           



In the end, when it comes to black friday sales I ask myself one important question. Is the item I want worth saving a few bucks for to go out on Thanksgiving or early friday morning to get? Will it really be that horrible to pay a few dollars more? If the answer is no, I stay home.

ASUS and my fight for them to be honorable

This blog is about my fight with ASUS computer company to get them to honor my warranty and replace my laptop. If anyone wants to share this page on the ASUS facebook page i would appreciate it. It also would be great if people could please go to this tweet and re-tweet it. The story In February of 2013 I purchased an ASUS brand laptop. The salesman highly recommended the brand, and it had several features i was looking for, including windows 8. $400 later, i left the store with a new laptop for school and a happy spirit. Flash forward ONE MONTH, and i started having an issue with the laptop. The sound would stop working, both on files and online. After contacting both geek squad and ASUS, they determined that i had gotten a virus in the audio software. I uninstalled the software, ran a comprehensive virus cleanup, purchased a new "better" anti-virus program the ASUS tech recommended and re-installed the audio drivers. Why i stayed...

In light of the recent video that has come to light showing ex-ravens player Ray Rice knocking then fiance, current wife Janay Palmer unconscious in a elevator, i have seen a lot of people asking "why did she still marry him?" and "why do woman stay with men that beat them?" I'd like to take a moment to offer some insight, as a survivor of domestic violence myself. The day i was married, sept 2nd of 2005, 8 months pregnant and so naive, is the day my ex-husband first hit me. One of my male family members had said something incredibly rude to him, which caused us to argue after the wedding and reception.
