That's so 90s Pop!

Image
Join Britney Spears in a maze searching for the necklace she once thought the old lady dropped into the ocean. Join Mandy Moore for a Candy-fuelled adventure in her green VW bug. Color in the scorching tattoos on Nick Lachey's rippling biceps. All this and so much more to be discovered within the pages of  That's so '90s Pop,  a fill-in activity book featuring a bevy of beloved musical pop stars from the late '90s/ early '00s. I absolutely love the adult coloring book craze. I find coloring to be so therapeutic and relaxing. So i love buying adult coloring books, and as someone who was a teenager in the very late 90s/early 2000s i knew i would love this one. The activities in it remind me of the activity books we used to get as kids, very simple but good for killing some time. There are lots of neat 90s trivia facts, and a lot of color pages. The color pages are where i was disappointed. Most of them look very little like who they are supposed to be. If not fo...

David Bowie Retrospective and Coloring Book by Mel Elliott

Image
Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Thin White Duke. . . . Bowie changed his style more dramatically than any other musician in history. His transformations brought about seismic cultural shifts, altering the definition of what it meant to be a popular rock star. This annotated collection of illustrations provide a remarkable overview of Bowie's nearly fifty years of evolution, featuring looks by the likes of Freddie Burretti and Kansai Yamamoto, further establishing him as the fashion king of self-invention. I fell in love with David Bowie in the movie "Labyrinth." Jareth the Goblin King was a crush of mine for ages. As i got older i was able to delve into the music of Bowie, and see his true genius. His influence on pop culture, his stance on sexual fluidity and his challenge of gender norms...They made him a great man. His passing in the beginning of 2016 was terribly sad for me.  Being someone who loves Bowie, and who also loves adult coloring books, i was excited t...

Me: A Compendium by Wee Society

Image
Inventive, hilarious and joyously colorful, this fill-in journal was designed to help kids capture nearly everything that’s uniquely rad about them. With design-savvy, yet completely kid-friendly illustrations, they’re asked to draw or write about a bunch of interesting things — like what their hair looks like, what their band name would be, what they’d bring to outer space, and how they feel about lightning, lizards and pickles. Whether kids complete their entire compendium on a rainy day, or finish it over a year, it’ll become a treasure to look back on and smile. First, this book is the perfect size for kids. Not so large and unwieldy to manage and not so long that one never actually completes the whole book. And not too short that you whip through it in one sitting. I was not expecting a dust jacket (always a plus for added protection). Love the bold and graphic image on the cover! What makes the dust jacket particularly fun is that it offers a place for a child to...

Image
" Sleep soundly with ZzzQuil™ LiquiCaps®. With just one dose, this non-habit-forming sleep-aid helps you get exactly what you need—a beautiful night’s rest, so you can wake up feeling refreshed." I am one of those lucky people who often has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I also have a condition called sleep apnea, which prohibits me from taking a lot of the sleep medicines out there. (The little green butterfly is pretty, but no Lunesta can be taken at my house) For this reason i was excited to get to try the Vicks ZzzQuil sleep aid. ZzzQuil is non-habit forming, and contains no added medicines like some PM pills. It comes in gel caps or liquid, i tried the gel caps. A 12 count box of the gel caps sells for about $5 at walmart. The main ingredient is   Diphenhydramine HCI 25mg, an antihistamine.  This is the same active ingredient in Benedryl.  So, You take two of the ZzzQuil pills and you fall asleep quickly, and i stayed alseep for a full 10 hours. I...

The Drawing Lesson by Mark Crilley

Image
The Drawing Lesson is a graphic novel that teaches you how to draw. The book follows a young boy named David, who meets a woman in the park who is drawing. He asks her to help teach him, and in each chapter we get to see him learning something new with Becky's help. Page by page, Becky teaches David (and the reader) about the essential fundamentals that artists need in order to master drawing. The book includes lessons on shading, negative space, and creating compositions, with easy to follow exercises to help you master the techniques.   My son Landon LOVES to draw. He also LOVES comic books. When I saw this book I knew that he would love it. The book is beautifully illustrated. The characters make it more interesting to read and follow over just an instructional drawing book. My son loves reading and using his drawing pad to try out the new techniques. This book is perfect for any child who loves to draw, loves art and loves to learn.       I r...
